Japan market entry web marketing
for Asian brands.

Japan does not reject foreign brands. It rejects lazy localization. Native Japanese SNS, paid media, and English-led measurement — run by one Tokyo-based operator who actually walks the file with you instead of handing it to four account juniors.

Japan market entry as an editorial process, not a translation pipeline. Start with a Japan Market Entry Audit.

§01 · What we work on

Ask first.
Open to most Asia → Japan briefs across categories.

The underlying skill set — editorial localization, JP search, SNS register, paid media, English-readable measurement — travels across markets and categories. What changes brief to brief is which lever we pull first.

DimensionReading
Origin markets Any Asian market. Recurring patterns from Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Mainland China, India, the Philippines. Other origins fine — the operator reads briefs in English regardless of brand language.
Categories Most consumer and B2B. Common: Beauty, Fashion, F&B, DTC e-commerce, IP / Character / Toys, B2B SaaS, Service. Less common but accepted: hospitality, mobility, education, lifestyle. The skill set is editorial; the category is mostly context.
Out of scope Original creative production — no shoots, no design from scratch, no original video. We localize and rewrite what you already have, and operate the platforms. If you need original creative, we can refer trusted JP partners.
If your category or origin isn't above, ask anyway — most things fit.
§02 · Breakpoints

Where Japan entries usually break.

Most failed Japan entries don't fail because Japan rejected the brand. They fail at four predictable seams — each one fixable, in order.

i.

Translation, not localization.

The deck is translated word-for-word. The result reads like a brand-safe government memo. Japanese readers don't bounce because it's offensive — they bounce because it sounds like nothing, neither Japanese nor foreign.

Working note The shortest fix is rarely "translate again". Japan has its own culture and language — the rewrite has to read like it was written for that audience.
ii.

SNS run on the wrong instinct.

What works on Thai TikTok or HK Instagram doesn't always work in Tokyo. Hashtag etiquette and comment register are subtly different. Brands often feel "we're posting, but nobody's biting" — and they're right.

Working note Rewriting captions in a Japanese register often works better than translating them straight. Borrowing whatever's trending on JP timelines right now is another fair approach.
iii.

Ads configured for global, not Japan.

Most "Japan ads" we see are inherited ad accounts from the parent organization, with audience and bidding settings built for other markets and a Japan location filter laid on top. That's geofencing the global setup, not Japan targeting. JP-native audience signals, JP search behavior, and LINE / Yahoo placements are added later — if at all.

Working note The fix isn't more spend. It's redesigning the campaign for Japan from the ground up.
iv.

Measurement that HQ can't read.

Japanese reports go to a Japanese in-country lead, who summarizes upward. By the time it reaches HQ in Bangkok or Seoul, the diagnosis is gone and only the conclusion remains. We write reports HQ can read directly.

Working note Reports default to English. A Japanese version is available on request at no extra charge when the JP-side team needs it.
